Monument to the Frozen Partisans
Location: On Napoleon Road, the old road from Knin to Split that passes through Krčić Canyon (see Napoleon Road in Nature)
This is a less known monument in Knin’s surroundings. The monument was built in memory of the 46 fighters of 10th Dalmatian Partisan brigade that got into the blizzard and froze on the night between January 28 and 29 in 1945 on their way to Sinj.
The case is unique because that night winter claimed the highest number of deaths from freezing during the liberation war (WWII).
This monument is the work of Joze Drnasin from 1983. It’s a serene place and together with the view to Dinara, especially at sunset on a clear day, is a beautiful sight and a good spot to make a stop on a way to or from Split.
